Motorcycle Eyewear

As a chic motorcyclist, getting the right kind of eyewear that suits you just right should be a priority. You want eyewear with the perfect blend of comfort and functionality. Vision is the most paramount sense when riding, you need it to perform optimally and to stay safe. You would not want to use eyewear that could potentially impede your sight. Here, fashion becomes less important on the scale of preference when compared to function and quality. Eyewear is one of most essential part of your motorcycle gear and should not be discredited.

So here we’ve made a list of factors to consider when you decide to shop for a new pair of motorcycle eyewear.

Frame Type

When you hit the road, the eyewear you opt for usually hinges a lot on the type of helmet that you have on. If you have a full-face helmet on, you’d best stay off goggles as they don’t mix quite well with face shields. You’re better off with glasses. If on the other hand, you have a three-quarter or half-shell helmet, goggles would work best because you could lose glasses if the road gets bumpy or you encounter a serious gust of wind.

Nylon/Plastic frames are also your best bet because of their durability. They can withstand the rigors of consistent usage. One other major thing to consider is the wraparound feature - this reduces the amount of dust and air that come between your eyes and the lens. The possibility of the sun reflecting off the insides of the lens is also reduced.

Frame type is also a department where you could play around with colours. You can get different colours to match any of our Chic Riot female motorcycle jackets. No sacrificing looking chic!

Lens Size

You want to ensure that your lens covers the whole of eyes. No point investing in a pair of eyewear if they won’t provide proper coverage for your eyes. The bigger the lens, the better protection they offer.

Lens Type

Polycarbonate lenses are the best bet here. They are shatterproof, this means they will successfully deflect gravel, rocks, insects or the occasional wayward bird. Glass lenses will almost always break and can render you blind if the impact is much. You don’t want to lose your eyes because you chose the wrong kind of eyewear.

Lens Coating

The most basic of motorcycling eyewear should have Ultra-Violet (UV) coating, if your preferred choice at the store doesn’t have it clearly stated, please pass on it. UV coating helps protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun. Glasses with scratch-resistant coating are also quite essential, especially if you’ll be riding for long periods at a time. Polarized coating is another feature of eyewear that can be quite helpful especially when you’re riding directly into the sun. Sunglare is greatly reduced and visibility is enhanced in such situations

Fit

Find glasses with comfy nose-pieces. Better still, opt for eyewear with adjustable nose-pieces. Your glasses should never leave indentations behind on your nose after you take them off.

Ensure the eyewear rest properly on your ears when you put them on. They should never be too tight or too loose.

Storage

Storing eyewear properly will make them last longer. This way, you can get your money’s worth out of them. Invest in the proper cases and pouches to store your eyewear. Also ensure that you have cloths to clean your eyewear, microfibre materials are best suited for this purpose. You could also get a pouch made of the same material, that way, you get the best of both worlds of storage and cleaning.

Keep your eyes on the prize chics!

Until next time.
