Chic Riot Spotlights: Sarah
In one or two sentences tell us about yourself:
My name is Sarah and I live in New York City, the Concrete Jungle. I am a photographer, filmmaker, adrenaline junkie, and a two wheels lover.
Who or what got you into riding?
Two years ago, I met one of my old friends and he happened to ride a Harley Davidson. The minute I saw his bike, I was convinced that I wanted to ride a motorcycle, too. As a child, I used to play with motorcycles and car toys instead of dolls and teddy bears; so my fascination with motorcycles was always in the back of my mind. I just had to wait for the right moment to start riding.
What do you ride? And what does your bike say about you?
I ride a 2018 Honda Rebel 500. I’ve had it for one year and I am in love with it. I think of my bike as a man. I have to be in a good relationship with him and know how to handle him. We are one on the road and I feel that my bike is a part of my identity. The freedom, happiness, excitement, adventure, and the adrenaline rush I get are all because of my Rebel. I am forever grateful to share this passion with my fellow riders worldwide.
How does it feel to be a female rider in this male-dominated sport/lifestyle?
Once my friends asked why I like men’s hobbies, so I replied to her, “If men can enjoy those hobbies, I can too.” Being a female rider is not bad at all. Sometimes people don't take me serious as a female rider, but most of the time I feel welcomed everywhere I go. I’ve met some cool male riders on the open roads and I believe that the motorcycle community has created an inclusive environment for everyone.
What is the most memorable experience or most fun you've had since riding?
My first memorable experience is my camping trip to New Hampshire and Maine. I was overwhelmed with the breathtaking beauty of nature, especially in Acadia National Park. And the most memorable experience is when I headed with my friend to the Tail of Dragon. The trip was very challenging especially when we got on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We had a lot of mechanical problems and mishaps that had delayed our arrival to North Carolina. At some point, I thought that we should go back home. Thankfully, my friend and I didn’t give up and we made it to NC after 4 days on the road. That trip was an eye-opening experience for me about the meaning of riding and the journey within ourselves while we ride.
