Chic Riot Spotlights: Meghan

In one or two sentences tell us about yourself..

I'm Meghan Stark— a web developer, graphic designer, self-portrait photographer and writer based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I'm an avid traveler who loves photography, poetry, everything music, coffee, and the culinary arts!

Who or what got you into riding?

I'm lucky enough that motorcycles were around me intermittently growing up. My uncle and cousin owned a motorcycle shop and dealership for a few years, and my brother and I got to ride dirt bikes a few times when we were kids. He ended up buying a motorcycle three years before I did, so I was able to leverage a lot of his knowledge when I first got into riding on the street.

What do you ride? And what does your bike say about you?

I ride a 2017 Ducati Scrambler Cafe Racer, the 2nd bike I've ever owned. I think it communicates a lot about my love of vintage inspired simplicity mixed with modern functionality— it’s a modern classic. It shows that I’m mostly a city rider, a bit of minimalist, and I never compromise on style. My Ducati and cafe racer culture directly inspired the creation of my brand Great Lake Supply Co.

How does it feel to be a female rider in this male dominated sport/lifestyle?

It all depends on where I am; I almost consider the online world a whole different space. Amongst riders in Milwaukee, I’m usually welcomed just like anyone else. The riding community is pretty diverse and strong throughout the city. Since I’m female, I definitely stick out more than I’d like, so sometimes I have to deal with extra attention. Most of the time it’s just intrigue and excitement! People love to see more young women riding. The best part of being an outlier is the comradery amongst other women riders. We can bond so quickly, and linking up with them through Instagram and YouTube has completely opened up my network.

What is the most memorable experience or most fun you've had since riding?

Riding is such a consistent joy that it’s hard to pinpoint just one! Recently I went out with a couple of friends and we spent all day cruising around town, exploring industrial areas, natural areas, wherever we felt like going. I love that the bike reveals so much character about the city and people in it; you are a part of it in such a different way than in a car. You’re much more inclined to wander for the sake of it, to go off-road and be intuitive. There’s a special presence and flow you get from riding that has kept me completely hooked.
